Rotation of the Priestly Courses

Picture
In King David’s work of preparation for the first Temple, 24 chief priests were organized into courses by lot for governing priestly responsibilities in the Temple that would be built by Solomon.  These courses were part of a greater listing of divisions that are spelled out in 1 Chronicles chapters 24-26.  The Dead Sea Scrolls 4Q319 - 4Q330 contain some detailed records of these courses as named in 1 Chronicles 24:7-18.  It is accepted by many that the Zadok priests functioned in Qumran accordingly in these courses as they carried out the Mishmarot, guarding and preserving Yah's Word.
We've previously studied these scrolls of the Mishmarot, and this year has required a complete re-examination of their relevancy in the overall Zadokite calendar picture.   Read on to see what we've discerned about the Mishmarot of the DSS:

The Prescribed Pattern of the Years -
As recorded in the writings of 1 Enoch and Jubilees

Enoch's Gates of the Sun
It is rather fascinating to us that the most substantial information regarding the ancient calendar of the Holy Bible is primarily recorded in two books that are not a part of the Holy Bible. There are good reasons for their absence from the canon of today’s Scriptures, and yet it should be noted that these books had a prominent place in the DSS.  They contain an indispensable wealth of information regarding the cosmology (and the calendar) that was understood by the people of the Bible from the time of creation.

New Year
(Equinoxes, Weekday 4, Intercalation)

In this 6-page article, we take another comprehensive look at how the "Beginning of Months" is determined on the Zadokite Sabbath Calendar.  We lay out the what, how and why of the necessary criteria which we have gleaned from the Dead Sea Scrolls to keep this ancient priestly calendar in its pure and unadulterated form - simple, yet amazingly profound!

For more information regarding the use of the vernal equinox, we wrote another short article comparing it to the equilux:
Equinox or Equilux - Which Do We Use?  (download HERE)

And for more clarity to understand what an equinox actually is, we posted this blog entry at The Sabbath Calendar Journal:

This 12-page article delves into the material of "New Year" a little more deeply.  We address what we see as some misconceptions surrounding the basic criteria as laid out in the scrolls.   We are seeing attempts to "correct" or adjust the calendar with methods that are (in our opinion) based on faulty assumptions.  These "fixes" introduce unfounded alterations that cause divergence from the timeless perfection of this ancient calendar.  Yah created time with an aspect of Divine Patterning that is absolutely unbroken and perpetual within the schematic framework of the Zadokite Sabbath Calendar just as it is.

A New Year 2024 - Declaring the Glory of Yah!
We were moved to write about the importance of coming in the "spirit of Elijah" this year (2024),
in "Declaring the Glory of Yah" to fellow Believers and non-Believers alike.

Removing the Cover - Lifting the Veil
The veiling (covering) has been in place, and the unveiling (uncovering – lifting of that veil) is about to occur.  We are at the cusp of the intense prophetic revelation that we have awaited.  The “unveiling” is upon us.    (download HERE)

Y'shua's Bride -
What Will He Find When He Comes for Her?

(25)  ...  as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
(26)   That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
(27)  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
  Eph 5:25-27
"That he might"  -  Is this merely wistful thinking?  Or is Paul alluding to something of a greater magnitude?  Is he saying that Y'shua will expect to acquire only a purified "church" as His Bride?  How does the balance of Scripture and even the Hebraic Bridal Custom relate to this Ephesians passage?

Come and explore with us in our two-part article called "The Would-Be Bride."     (part 1)     (part 2)
Comparing Parables
Picture
Matthew chapter 13 is known for a series of parables taught from the mouth of Y'shua himself.  When reading this chapter recently, a phrase jumped out at us in the verse that follows the Parable of the Sower -

"For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath."  Matthew 13:12

This resonated to us about the Parable of the Talents, bringing our attention to studying both parables together, and giving us a more insightful look at bearing Fruit of the Spirit.  So here is a new 8-page article, "Comparing Parables," in a free .pdf download.

Some People Don't Celebrate Christmas ... BUT WHY???
When people find out we don't celebrate Christmas, we get that puzzled look, then the spoken or unspoken question falls in the air, "... But Why???"
One can see the wheels turning in their minds: "There is a great deal of joy and festivities, laughing, family fun, and a warmth in the air this time of year.  How can you turn away from the beauty of this season?"  It is a difficult query to address.  By the standards of this world and the estimation of the majority of people in this country, this is certainly the most enjoyable season of the year.  Yet on a personal level,  ...  read the full article

  • Shabbat Shalom - Yom Teruah!
Is it a problem if a High Holy Day, an Annual Sabbath, falls on a Saturday, the weekly Sabbath?
We see this happen fairly frequently.  It's just how the days and their counts work out sometimes on various calendars.
When this happens, then the Holy Day will normally take precedence over the weekly Shabbat.
It's still a Sabbath, so it's really not a problem - right?

Is it okay for one type of Sabbath to blot out the other?

Conundrum!
